The Junkyard Tornadoes are an Appleton, Wisconsin based band formed in the wreckage of a now condemned sculpture studio in 2017. Rob and Jake met years earlier at Lawrence University, where they are professors (notably not in music). Playing off and on in various cover bands, they each came to realize that writing songs was far easier than remembering how to play other people’s.
They draw on a shared loved love of blues and rock and roll, ranging from Sister Rosetta Tharp to The Faces to Steve Earl, and … well, you know, that kind of thing.
The Junkyard Tornadoes played out for the first time at the opening of Harmony Pizza in late 2017.
After signing a 10-year/10-album deal with Cyclone Records in 2019 they released their first EP Three Minute Average. Their first full length album Songs from the End of the World was released at the end of 2020. This was followed by Live at the Indifferent Saloon in 2021, and American Planck Time in 2023. They are currently working on their next album.
